Opening Sequence Final Cut

Production Diary: 11/02/15

Today we finished our final cut and exported it so we can upload it to YouTube. We also filmed an extra shot for in the lab, however we didn't like how it fit into the scene so we decided to remove it.

We also filmed extra shots this week, of the zombie biting another person in the lab, however we put this between shots of the zombie running through the woods so that it resembles back-flashes, by doing this we are able to break up the lengthy scene and help it flow better. We also but static sounds and images over the beginning and end of each shot to help show a cut between the woods and lab as well as emphasis the back-flash.

Production diary: 21/1/15

This week we filmed and extra shot for the lab scene, it is of the Zombie opening its eyes before sitting up. We decided to add this shot in as it helps the scene to flow better by making the movement of the zombie seem continues. To make sure the new shot fit into the scene we added attributes from the other shots in that scene to make the lighting as near the same as possible to reduce continuity errors.

We made the lab scenes darker because the lighting was to dark and conflicted with the thriller genre.

Opening Sequence 1st Cut

Feedback
We were told that our framing of shots, steadiness of camera, mine en scene, and our use of titles were very good, and our editing for meaning was also good but can still be developed.
We were told that our material is appropriate for the task, although the lighting is quite high key which doesn't fit our genre. They then said that we could add some other fast handheld shots of 'bite' so that the extra zombies made sense.

To add more bite scenes we thought that these could be much closer up and more graphic (e.g. blood) and they could be shown both in the lab and in the woods.
We were told that our shot transitions are varied and our post production effects were good, and adapting lighting will help in post production and to include some more flashing shots at the end to be consistent.

To adapt the lighting we thought that we could paste the lighting from one of the wood scenes over the top of the lab scenes to that it looked darker.
We were told that the music in the begginning started too late and to make it start earlier in the sequence.

Half term production update

After reviewing our 1st cut we realised we needed to make the editing more continuous, to do this we are going to film more shots such as; the Zombie opening her eyes, before sitting up, this will help to make the flow of the scene become more seamless.

We also realised that we need to make the plot of the scene clearer, for example other people being bitten, we will do this by filming the zombie biting more people.  We will put these shots between sections of the zombie running through the woods, as those two shots are also too long and drag the scene out, by doing this it will make the scene seem more fast paced.

Production Diary: 5/01/2015

Today we shortened some of our shots further to make our scene faster, as well as further editing the music. For example putting 'radio new reports' over the top of our production company openings.

Soundtrack

Zombie apocalypse from Dubstep center on YouTube -  we used these over our productions, as well as the end of the track during the lab scene

Science Lab Sound Effects from Brunette483 on YouTube - we used these to create labs you'd exoect to here in a lab

Radioactive cover by Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix - we used this during the wood scene

Production Companies

We created our own production company "Dark Wood", the name was inspired by our times spent filming in Post wood. We also chose Warner Brothers to finance our film because they produced the 2007 film I Am Legend, which has a similar genre to ours, as well as the 2014 film The Edge of Tomorrow which features a similar apocalyptic world of which we are trying to create, and also an army base like what we went to have in our film.

Open Sequence Presentation

Feedback
Sci-fi/ Thriller: nice combination of genres, and conventions used to represent them.

story-line: what will the opening sequence show?
The opening sequence will show a person being experimented on, waking up and then biting the scientist, before walking out of the lab and then running around in a wood and biting other people.

Extra zombies - who are they, how many will you have, and how will you represent them as zombies?
Molly and two of our friends Tom and Dom, There are 3 zombie extras. We will represent them as zombies by painting their faces to look zombie-ish and also paint bite marks on them.

Are you showing people being bitten?
We are showing one person being pounced on and being bitten.
